"And the little one said..."

Mommy please stop knitting and come to bed.
Ok, just a few more stitches honey.....I gotta finish this row, round, stitch, etc.
What about now?
I need to finish typing this blog.
Mommy would you cuddle me?  Yes and hugs tightly will typing one handed....
So what IS my least favorite thing about today....Wii Fit almost got broken.
Up side...it isn't broken and apparently percussive maintenance makes it think your younger.
What was my favorite...hmm...My harmony Interchangeable circulars arrived.
They are so awesome.  Thanks to DH for letting me get em.
I have two projects on them already...love em, love em, love em.  The work as circulars, straights, and in a very magical loopy way.
Well I bettwer cave and go to bed.
Cheers

Preferences

Well I have undecided.
I asked DH, what do you think is best:
1) Socks + Leg warmer + shortie Soaker
2) Thigh Highs + shortie Soaker
3) socks + longies
4) All in one, IE tights
I have undecided that I agree with DH, it really all depends on the situation.  Are you trying to match everything?  So you have separates that will match to create a pleasing outfit, without looking ridiculous?  Are you concerned about warmth which changing a diaper?  Will you have to change a diaper in 7 degree Celsius houses without working thermostats because you forgot to change the batteries? (Yes, and might I say that the $100 dollars to have the repair come out and tell me that was the problem, was just as annoying).  Are you concerned that some small child might pull off there socks?...and believe me thigh highs do not prevent this.  Right now I prefer tights if it will be going under something else, and I can use a diaper shit to help keep the tights on.  I think socks plus either longies or socks + leg warmer + shorty soaker are about the same in my book, Benefit of both of these only one item need to be removed with a diaper change.  However I think from my DD perspective, she would say the leg warmers + shorties is preferable, because it keeps her legs warm during the change up.  Mommy is leaning towards the three pieces too, because since the leg warmers are a bit more slim fitting they help to keep the socks on, and the shortie helps to keep the leg warmers up.  As a bonus, if it gets to warm the leg warmers can always come off...that is if spring/summer ever reaches our remote part of the world.  The benefit of the longies, is the look a little more like a pair of pants, but really I don't think my 11m old DD cares, or is worried about fashion at this moment.
Well that's that.  Cheers to you all, & happy sailing to Boston town ;).

Two down & one up to his eyeballs in snow.

As D enjoys the (hopefully) last fleeting snow days of winter 2009, I think about how I really would like to try and make him up some twined mittens & a matching hat.  I wonder if Brigs comes in Orange & Black?  Or maybe a bright yellow...but then again he loves red, so maybe a red & yellow.
Ahhh, things to consider.
So the last two days has deposited enough snow in my backyard for snow man building, and a good snow ball fight.
Not very often that I have the two little ones napping at the same time, but is sure feels nice to have afew minutes to myself.
Well, I hopes this finds you all in good cheer,
Until Next time.
Cheers!

Cutting stitches....

So Bre's socks are now L's socks & A's arm warmers.
The "thigh high" was just fine, other then the fact that the sock portion, was WAY TOO BIG.
So I thought, I will just cut them down, cut the sock off, knit a rib onto it, and put them back until her feet get a little bigger...well I cut them, and L grab them saying "Sock, sock, sock"....Mommy replies with "Do you want to put them on?"  Emphatic yes head nod for L.  So wqe put them on, and guess what, they fit perfectly!  I was teasing A, that the leg warmer portion would make a nice arm warmer, and thus the arm warmer was created, and poor Bre, was left stareing, as if to say "What just happened"?!?!
All will be happy, when I make a new pair of socks & leg warmer for Bre.  Allong with D's socks too.
Cheers!

Reading...."Oh Brother!"

Devon: "So...you want to read Thomas?"
Liam - nods yes.
Devon: "Okay, sit down and I will read you a storey about Thomas & his friends".
And yes, they did actually sit there and read/listen to the whole storey. Gotta love it!  Brotherly love!  The moments that make a momma proud!  (Sniff, sniff, wipes tear away).

Life's little "swift" moments...

Experiment:   How Do Componants "mix".  What will be the outcome if you mix a 7 year old, a tinker toy, & some yarn (that needs to be balled)?
Hypothesis:   A mess, a big tangle mess.
Materials: Standard Tinker Toy Set, Skein of Yarn, Giggling 7 year old (giggling not required).
Experiment notes: Progress faster when said "7 year old" was not in a fit of giggles.  Some minor adjustments needed to be made to accomidate the size of the skein & the weight.
Results:  A Newly wound Ball of Yarn.
Conclusion:  Lots of fun, a newly wound ball, a 7 year old, (still having the giggles), although the tinker toy swift was fun to make, and fun to play with, I don't think it would last up to very much use, or would work well with heavier weight or larger skeins of yarn.  Also with children competing for component parts, once the yarn was wound, my swift didn't last long in "one piece".  So lots of fun, but not practical in ahouse with munchikins & lots of yarn.

Would the real Shelley Please step forward.

Okay, I know the title is a bit wonky (to say the least).  It occured to me, as I was going about my morning routine, that my llie is very different then what I thought it would be.
I remember sitting in a hallway in my high school with some friends (and you know who you are), talking about "the future".  What did we plan to do, who did we want to be/become?  What were our "hopes & dreams".  Looking back at that moment, the answer to those questions was very different then the life I have now.
Question:
a)  My high school self
b)  Reality

1)Do you want to get married?
a)  Yes by 20
b)  Have been for almost 10 years

2)  Do you want a career?
a)  Definitly, Doctor
b)  Does SAHM* count?

3)  Do you want kids?
a)  Maybe
b)  Got 3 so far...

4)  Will your kids go to daycare?
a)  Definitly!
b)  Yeah .. no .. never ... not going there

5)  Will you be a *stay at home mom?
a)  Absolutly NOT!
b)  Hummm .... yeah, and loving it!

6)  Dreaming of....
a)  Riches & big house
b)  House (guess some things never change), babies, happy family

So Score so far...yeah no score, not "my" life...or at least the one my 16 year old self planned.

Life lesson number 1 - You don't always plan your life, sometimes your life plans you.
LL #2 - All things that are meant to happen, do...in there own time.
LL# 3 - We are only given the challanges in life that we can handle.
LL # 4 - All things happen for a reason, we just don't always know what that reason is.
LL #5 - Friends come & go in your life, some friendships last a short time, others (seem) to last for "ever".  All friendships are important, even the short ones, each has some important to offer us, and for us to learn & grow from/with.
LL # 6 - Friends are important, make time for them.
LL # 7 - Family is precious, enjoy your time with them, make time for them (even your crazyAunt "Martha") she might enjoy that visit more then you would even know.
LL # 8 - "And this too shall pass"
LL # 9 - Every stage has its merits, sometimes its hard to find them, refer to LL#8, take deep breath, take step backwards, (who would know that dry kidney bean will neutrilize the odour in Sea Boots...and that if one Kidney Bean id left in the boot while wearing it, itwould be so annoying)
LL# 10 - Life Lessons never end, you will spend your lifetime learning the lessons of life.

Early in the Morning

Every once in a while you have to stop and think.  As I went about my morning I kept humming.  I wasn't aware of what I was humming until my son left for school.  Dare I say it...ABBA's "Slipping throough my fingers".  The irony...as I send my son off to school in the morning...I apparently was unconciously thinking about how much he is growing up.
So..I am thankful & unthankful for the time change.  Thankful for a little peace and quiet prior to the caos that will no doubt unsue once the mini-munchkins are awake, unthankful that poor Devon & myself had to get up "early".
Knitting...hmmm...well R2D2 did get completed...should have been frogged ... but was finished anyway...did it fit?  Well if your under 8...yes...but if you are the daddy that wanted the hat...that would be no...back to the knitting needles for a new one.  In the meantime, he was thinking it would be "cool" to add R2s legs on to the "small" hat...the legs would come down and cover the ears of the wearer...if I do this I will be sure to take a photo.  Wrap number one is finished and has been used by bothe bums, however Lee doesn't seem very eager to wear it, I think he is so use to the wraps, that the idea of a wool soaker he can't wrap his mind around, even when it is wrapping up his bum.  Needle status...new R2D2 hat ? maybe, I am investigating a technique,a nd might try doing a little of the technique with the R2D2, right now I have about 3/4 of the "base" hat done.  I have the begginign of two wraps on needles.  I would also like to cast on a pair of socks for Bre, and maybe a pair of tights, I would also like to get the back of a sweater cast on.
My crew is growing, and here is a little momento.
They wont be getting any younger, but the due sure grow up quickly!
I am having one of "those" morning where I feel like I am going from song to song.  Starting with Abba, moving to "Your gonna miss this" by Trace Atkins, mixed with a little "It won't be like this for long" by Darius Rucker, maybe add in a little "Moments" by Emerson Drive...and its not yet noon.
Well better go "swab" the deck before the Captain complains.
Until next time, I will be trying to keep my needles clicking.
PS. Those looking for the LSR this week...he is away at sea.
